This game was designed for a course project at American University. Our class was assigned to design a non-digital game using various raw materials. The inspiration for this game is chess because I was fascinated to how the pieces have different movement and players figuring out different strategies to capture the opposing king and call out "checkmate."

The goal of the game is destroy the opponent's fortress wall in order to win. Players control troops to attack the opposing fortress and defend their own. Troops can move forward or backward per turn and starts with 3 lives. When a player wants to attack, both players must roll a die to determine the result of the battle. In this scenario, if the attacker has a high roll then the attack is successful but if the roll is lower than the victims then the attack will fail and the victim can counter attack thus receiving damage. If a troop loses all lives then it is out of the game.

Materials/Software: Cardboard, Dice, Card stock, Illustrator

Group size: 1

Role: Game design- I was responsible for everything since this was an independent project. After planning and writing Fortress, I spent some time using paper prototypes and dice to build the game. I asked my classmates and professor to playtest the board game in order to find any bugs that need fixing.
